And if you’d like, we can even load a guitar so you can create magical nights under the stars.
Vehicles can be arranged according to your preference, from compact cars to SUVs and large vans. Over 10 days, you’ll spend 4 nights camping and 3 nights in hotels or ryokan, striking the perfect balance between the adventure of the outdoors and the comfort of fine accommodation. Schedule
| Day 1 | Sapporo Meet at 5:00pm in Sapporo. Vehicle handover at the hotel, followed by an orientation and explanation of the camping equipment and gear. From this moment, the adventure begins as you step out of the ordinary and into the world of Hokkaido’s great outdoors. |
| Day2 | Lake Shumarinai Head north from Sapporo, a 4-hour drive on the expressway. Along the way, stop at Hokuryu’s famous sunflower fields—one of the largest in Japan—and shop for fresh local food at a supermarket. Arrive at a Nordic-style campsite by Lake Shumarinai and stay for two nights. Spend your time fishing, canoeing, reading, strolling, or simply enjoying a beer while gazing at the lake and the surrounding forest reflected on its surface. |
| Day3 | Lake Shumarinai Enjoy a full day at Lake Shumarinai, Japan’s largest man-made lake and home to the legendary giant fish, ito. Relax in the tranquility of the lakeside and embrace the natural beauty. |
| Day4 | Lake Kutcharo, Hamatonbetsu Continue further north to Lake Kutcharo Campsite in Hamatonbetsu, a famous migratory stop for swans. Here, sunsets paint the lake in golden hues, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Right next door is a hot spring facility with mineral-rich waters renowned for leaving skin silky smooth. Stay for two nights. |
| Day5 | Cape Soya & Wakkanai Take a day trip to Cape Soya, Japan’s northernmost point, marked by its iconic monument. Gaze out over the vast Sea of Okhotsk before heading to Wakkanai to savor the local specialty, octopus shabu-shabu. Return to the campsite for the evening. |
| Day6 | Lake Saroma Travel south after four nights of camping. Tonight, unwind at a lakeside onsen ryokan at Lake Saroma, one of Japan’s largest brackish lakes. Watch the sunset over the water and enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot springs. |
| Day7-9 | Free Days (Shiretoko & Beyond) Three days of free time for independent exploration. You might venture to the World Heritage Site of Shiretoko with its dramatic cliffs and wildlife, explore the forests of eastern Hokkaido, or simply relax and stay put. On Day 9, stay at the historic Kawayu Onsen, known for its sulfuric hot springs and atmospheric townscape. |
| Day10 | ake Kussharo Camp by Lake Kussharo, Japan’s largest caldera lake. Enjoy a canoeing experience on its calm waters, and don’t miss the unique “Sunayu,” where hot springs bubble up through the sand along the lakeshore. |
| Day11 | Lake Shikaribetsu Drive along the “Milk Road,” an area known for its vast dairy farms, on the way to Lake Shikaribetsu, the only natural lake in Hokkaido. Surrounded by untouched primeval forest, this campsite offers a deep sense of silence. At night, marvel at the star-filled sky reflecting on the lake’s surface. |
| Day12 | Obihiro Travel to Obihiro and enjoy the city’s famous pork rice bowl (buta-don). Stay at a hotel with hot springs, combining the flavors of Tokachi’s fertile plains with the comfort of a relaxing soak. |
| Day13 | Furano & Biei Hills – Shirogane Campsite Journey to Furano and Biei, celebrated for lavender fields and rolling patchwork hills. Stay at Shirogane Campsite at the foot of the Daisetsuzan mountains. Spend your final night camping surrounded by breathtaking Hokkaido scenery. |
| Day14 | Shirogane → Chitose Airport Breathe in the crisp morning air before departing Shirogane Campsite. Arrive at Chitose Airport, bringing your 14-day journey through Hokkaido’s wilderness and hot springs to a close. |

With years of experience at a major travel company, Hideki Takeda specialized in planning educational trips that immersed students in history, culture, and the outdoors. He has designed numerous outdoor adventure tours as well as hands-on educational programs that connect people with Japan’s rich traditions.
A competitive skier in his youth and a backpacker during his student days, Takeda is a true adventurer at heart. He is equally at home pitching a tent deep in a remote forest as he is guiding others through cultural journeys.
Driven by his love of nature and rural life, he founded And Nature Inc., a travel company dedicated to showcasing the authentic beauty of Japan’s countryside. His guiding philosophy is simple yet powerful: “If it moves me, then it will surely move others.”
